About
What seemed like the final chapter in the saga of one of Denmark's most influential bands of the 2000s and 2010s turns out to be just a pause. Six years after their last tour, Turboweekend is making a triumphant return with a sold out tour and new music coming up.
They bowed out at their peak. After realizing the creative spark that had fueled them since their teenage years was fading, the bandmates decided to call it quits, embarking on what they thought would be their farewell tour in 2018. But fate had other plans.
“We’ve known each other since we were kids and started making music together when we were just boys. But in the end, we were completely drained. Creativity, passion, and even friendship to some extent – it all just burned out. Turboweekend began with pure love, but over time, it felt like we were trapped in this relentless machine, constantly needing to fuel it with our time and souls just to keep things moving. It was sucking the life out of us, and we couldn’t turn the ship around. So, we stopped,” lead singer Silas Bjerregaard recalls.
It was a tough decision, but one that ultimately saved the band.
“Those six years gave us the space we needed,” says drummer Martin Øhlers Petersen. “With that distance, we rediscovered a deep longing – not just for the music, but for the bond we’ve shared for so long.” Bassist Morten Køie jumps in, “When we got back together in the studio, everything was wide open. We each brought a few rough ideas, but without any pressure. It was like staring at a blank canvas, with a whole new palette of colors to paint with. It felt like we’d found the joy in making music again – and now, we can’t wait to hit the stage!”
When Turboweekend burst onto the scene in the mid-2000s, they were unlike anything else. At a time when the Danish music landscape was dominated by melancholic, introspective vibes, these three vibrant personalities came charging out with a sound full of soulful energy and rock-electronic swagger. Their debut hit, Into You, made it clear that Turboweekend’s underground new rave parties in Copenhagen were just the beginning. They were bound for bigger stages.
Their critically acclaimed debut album, Night Shift (2007), set the stage, but it was their sophomore effort, Ghost of a Chance (2009), that truly put them on the map. With radio-friendly hits like After Hours, Something or Nothing, and the iconic Trouble Is, Turboweekend racked up awards like “Hit of the Year” at the GAFFA Awards and “Breakthrough Act of the Year” at P3 Guld. By 2011, after touring extensively at home and abroad, they were honored with the Danish Music Award for “Best Live Act.”
Their third album, Fault Lines (2012), pushed their sound in new directions, and fans responded by sending it straight to the top of the charts. Singles like On My Side became inescapable on the airwaves, earning “Hit of the Year” from P3 listeners.
By 2015, Turboweekend dropped what seemed to be their swan song, Share My Thunder – another critically acclaimed album that featured the smash hit Miles and Miles. For over a decade, Silas Bjerregaard and company had built a reputation as one of Denmark’s most captivating live acts, headlining major festivals like Northside, Smukfest, Wonderfestiwall, and Tinderbox.
Now, for the first time since 2018, Turboweekend is stepping back into the spotlight.
