The Danish Chamber Orchestra pays tribute to Shu-bi-dua
The Danish Chamber Orchestra continues its series of symphonic tributes to great Danish songwriters, this time turning its attention to Denmark’s best-selling band, Shu-bi-dua. With 12 concerts from Copenhagen to Odense, the orchestra celebrates a part of the Danish national spirit.
“There are melodies you can hear without a radio. They simply hang in the air. For many people, Shu-bi-dua are the very sound of Denmark. Their songs are sung around midsummer bonfires, at Christmas gatherings and at celebration tables across generations. We are delighted to create a symphonic foundation for a large and colourful bouquet of songs that are among the most cherished in Danish popular culture,” says John Frandsen, managing director of the Danish Chamber Orchestra.
The tour brings together three original members of the group - Michael Hardinger, Jørgen Thorup and Kim Daugaard - alongside B-Joe Johansen, Flemming Olsen and Rasmus Schwenger, completing the line-up of Shu-bi-dua 2.0. Together with one of the Nordic region’s leading symphonic orchestras, they set out on a journey through a catalogue ranging from satirical rock to catchy pop.
“It has been an adventure ever since Bundesen and I recorded ‘Fed Rock’ in 1973. Now it reaches its climax as we present the biggest hits backed by the Danish Chamber Orchestra. It will be the experience of a lifetime.”
- Michael Hardinger
“I have always dreamed of singing in front of a full orchestra with strings and brass. For that dream to come true as the lead singer of Shu-bi-dua exceeds my wildest imagination.”
- Jørgen Thorup
“‘A bus came along with a string orchestra…’ That was the line in 1977, when I boarded the Shu-bi-dua bus. A fantastic journey as a musician, composer and arranger. It is a great honour now to present the songs with DUO.”
- Kim Daugaard
