“Language is with us from the day we are born. In the melodies of lullabies, folk songs and hymns, and later in the pop songs that shape our youth and bridge the way into adulthood. I have always written songs in English, but now I am taking the leap and bringing my mother tongue on tour.”

Pernille Rosendahl has always sung in English, enjoying major hits on her own musical journey and fronting Swan Lee and The Storm, known as a dark songbird in Denmark’s musical sky. Few can unfold the story of life’s melancholy and fragility as she does, with a voice that always illuminates the whole room, embraces its listeners and creates reassurance and warmth.

Now, for the first time, she does so entirely in Danish, visiting 15 cities to sing and interpret hits from her extensive catalogue, present new songs in her mother tongue and share favourite songs from our common musical heritage.

Pernille will naturally be joined on stage by her regular musical collaborator Søren Vestergaard. The 15 concerts are also staged in close collaboration with Reumert-winning Iraqi-Danish theatre director Sargun Oshana, with whom Pernille first worked in 2020 on Aarhus Teater’s highly acclaimed dance concert Vita Danica. And it is Pernille’s own mother who will be running the merchandise stand.

“Writing in Danish and exploring our language has, for me as a songwriter, been like finding my way home. That is why a sense of familiarity, intimacy and togetherness has also become a natural focal point. Although I am leading the singing, I hope we will hear one another’s voices and sing together when we meet around the country,” says Pernille Rosendahl.

Over 25 years, audiences have encountered Pernille Rosendahl in settings as varied as Toppen af Poppen, alongside the Danish National Girls’ Choir and in symphonic collaboration with the Danish Chamber Orchestra. She has also appeared on albums by notable artists including Anne Linnet, Kristian Leth and rapper Kesi.

She broke through in the 2000s with influential modern classics such as ‘Love Will Keep You Warm’, ‘I Don’t Mind’ and ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’. In 2016, she made her solo debut with the acclaimed ‘Dark Bird’. Most recently, she has released interpretations of lyrical national treasures including ‘Du kom med alt det der var dig’ and ‘Sig månen langsomt hæver’.
