Mina Okabe returns home and announces her biggest Danish concerts to date

She grew up between continents, her songs have reached listeners around the world, and she has been honoured in Japan. Now Mina Okabe will play her biggest Danish concerts to date at Musikhuset Aarhus and DR Koncerthuset.

Tickets on sale at kin.dk/MinaOkabe.

She made her debut in Copenhagen with atmospheric, sunlit pop songs that quickly reached an audience far beyond Denmark. First came “Walk Away”, followed by “Every Second”, which truly opened the doors to an international audience, particularly in Japan and South Korea.

Today, Mina Okabe has exceeded 500 million streams worldwide. She has been selected as both a Spotify Radar Artist and an Apple Music One To Watch, played festivals including Roskilde Festival, Seoul Jazz Festival, SXSW, Summer Sonic and Eurosonic, and was recently honoured as New Artist of the Year at the Japan Gold Disc Awards.

It is an unusual journey for a Danish-Japanese songwriter who has spent much of her life moving between London, New York, Manila, Copenhagen and Tokyo. Perhaps that is precisely why her songs reach so widely. They rarely rely on grand gestures. Instead, they explore small shifts in emotion: falling in love, doubt, distance, family, friendships and the feeling of belonging to several places at once.

Now Mina Okabe returns to Danish stages for her two biggest concerts in Denmark ever.

Mina Okabe will play Musikhuset Aarhus on 31 October and DR Koncerthuset on 8 November. These are her two biggest Danish concerts to date and a significant step for an artist who began with sensitive songs in a quiet pop world, but has since built a fanbase around the globe.

“I have played concerts in countries where I did not know the language, but where the audience still sang along to songs I wrote at home in Copenhagen. That has been quite incredible to experience. At the same time, Denmark is still my starting point. It was here that I began playing my songs live, and here that I first felt they could take on a life of their own. That is why coming home to play these concerts feels so special. DR Koncerthuset and Musikhuset Aarhus are iconic places, and I feel very honoured to play there under my own name for the first time,” says Mina Okabe.
