HUSH | Unplugged: From One Lifetime To Another
The 20th anniversary of Hush’s timeless debut album ‘A Lifetime’ will be celebrated in April, when the acclaimed duo visit the major concert halls. Fortunately, the anniversary continues into autumn with 28 concerts in intimate settings.
This year marks 20 years since Hush released their debut ‘A Lifetime’, unconcerned with musical fashions, reaching number one with acoustic guitar, banjo, lap steel and assured country pop. At a time when expansive Britpop and stadium rock set the agenda, this “little” album achieved unexpectedly great success. A Lifetime sold tens of thousands of copies, reached listeners across generations and became its own chapter in recent Danish music history.
Last year, Hush announced an ‘A Lifetime’ anniversary tour, and demand for its nine April concerts in Denmark’s biggest concert halls has been overwhelming. Singer Dorthe Gerlach and guitarist Michael Hartmann are therefore delighted to reveal no fewer than 28 unplugged concerts this autumn.
“We recorded most of the debut at home in the bedroom, simply because we could not get a record deal at first. What seemed like an obstacle actually became the key to the album’s sound: something very direct and incredibly intimate. That is why it makes SO much sense to bring these songs to the small venues.”
So says Michael Hartmann of ‘A Lifetime’. Dorthe Gerlach adds:
“I jokingly call it our anti-arena tour. It also highlights that small venues and music associations offer something very special when it comes to experiencing music. They have been with us all the way. That is where we played our first concerts, and we have loved returning throughout the years.”
As the tour title “From One Lifetime To Another” suggests, Hush have not stood still over the past 20 years. Although the concerts take the debut album as their starting point, the duo also promise previews of brand-new songs.
The 28 acoustic concerts begin on 26 September across every part of the country, from Vordingborg to Ishøj, Assens to Agger and Brønderslev to Tønder. The tour is a welcome continuation of a much-anticipated anniversary, this time in the intimate surroundings of Denmark’s small venues and music associations: the places where Hush and their audience first met.
