Calby heads out on an autumn tour with a live trio
It will be both intimate and musically explosive when Calby embarks on his autumn 2025 tour with a brand-new trio concept. Following his sold-out solo tour, the acclaimed soul singer once again explores new ground, taking audiences on a musical journey back to the roots with unique concerts that build from beginning to end.
He made his debut with a sound rooted in musical traditions of the past, but with an unmistakable tone and soulful commitment that immediately left his own assured imprint on Danish music. ‘The Everyday Bit’ was recorded on an eight-track tape recorder which, despite its obvious limitations, introduced a musician and songwriter whose lyrical and musical output would prove immensely expansive.
Calby has continued to follow his own path ever since that breakthrough, including live, where his audience keeps growing. In autumn 2024, he embarked on his first sold-out solo tour. Now he can reveal a series of concerts in autumn 2025, this time as a trio, in a different and challenging concept that takes things back to their roots.
He has also released the new single “While I Wait”, the first taste of his upcoming third album. The album was written from a blank canvas and within freer boundaries than before, with Calby allowing himself to be more outgoing and bold. “I am no longer afraid of either success or failure. I have felt the extremes, and I am still here. Pop music is my friend again, and I am trying to express something more outward-looking and courageous,” he says.
The upcoming concerts will be built around the songwriter and his guitar. The bass is then introduced with its deep groove, adding renewed intensity to the songs, before the drummer completes the line-up: the classic foundation of rock music. The connection between people and the pure expression of the instruments are at the heart of the musical journey Calby wants to share with his audience.
“I was very drawn to the immediate energy that arose on my solo tour. That raw moment between songwriter and audience. We will bring that energy to the upcoming tour, which will be a musical three-stage rocket: hopefully an intimate experience, back to the starting point, authentic and simple, but definitely explosive too,” says Calby.
Calby is Copenhagen musician Mik Thybo. His original take on soul and R’n’B received five stars from both GAFFA and Soundvenue when his debut album ‘Burnout’ arrived in 2021. With Grammy-winning mixer and producer Tom Elmhirst (Amy Winehouse, Adele and others) on the team, Calby demonstrated international stature. He later followed it with further acclaimed nuances and introspection on 2023’s ‘Inner Critic’s Choice Awards’.
From the very first line, Calby has enjoyed major success on Danish radio, with no fewer than four Top 10 hits on the airplay chart. He has won a Carl Prisen award and been nominated for two Danish Music Awards, including New Live Act of the Year. With platinum and gold hits, Calby’s songs have been streamed more than 25 million times on Spotify.
